March Mission - The Results!

So, the March (but really April) Mission was to go forth and have a journey - and I did!!

I went somewhere I've never been before and somewhere I'd definitely like to go again - Iceland!

The scenery was stunning, we saw the Northern Lights and humpbacked whales, ate fish and chips (in the harbour), a hot dog from the world famous hot dog stand, Kjotsupa (Icelandic meat soup) at a place called Koffin and sampled Icelandic donuts and marriage cake, went to the Viking settlement museum (and stood outside the penis museum) and on a great guided tour of the town (Reykjavik), climbed Hallgrimskirkja tower for the amazing views, found the Kiki Queer, Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da (which was a bit like an Icelandic version of Charlie's!)and Dillon's Whiskey bars (and the Chuck Norris Grill!) and loads of coffee shops, and watched the colour changing light show of the Harpa concert hall and all in just over 2 days!

Which part of "No" don't you understand?

Whenever anyone's asked me this my usual response has been "The N and the O."

Don't take NO for an answer Day  - So, apparently, this idiom was first recorded in 1930 in Winston Churchill's My Early Life : “Don't take no for an answer, never submit to failure.”

You can buy a book called Don't Take No for an Answer - it's about the 2011 referendum and the future of electoral reform.

Riveting stuff.

Pondering and Belly Buttons!

Belly Button Day - For some reason no one would let me take a photo of their belly button, and I couldn't find anyone who'd admit to being an outy!

I did find a song about belly buttons though (I kid you not)...

And A WikiHow on how to clean your belly button

Ponder the Universe Day - this one kind of snuck up on me unawares (and without time to ask Mr Robinson to do an encore of the extremely well executed 'Ponder the Universe' post from last year!). I do kind of ponder the universe every night when I go to bed (yes, I'm aware that this very tenuous) due to the star themed decoration everywhere - and the awesome glow in the dark star show when the lights go out :-)

Turning Heads and Setting Records!

Turn some heads day - only my own I'm afraid, it certainly felt like my head was spinning, and splitting in two, this week!

Set a new world record day - nope, totally failed in this one, I'm ashamed to say that I didn't even attempt any sort of record!

I can't just leave it there however, so, here are some other recent Guiness world records;

  • Hong Kong man scoops largest baccarat tournament winnings with $15M prize in Macao
  • Tiffany Two, world's oldest cat celebrates 27th birthday
  • Quickfire comedian Clive Greenaway sets most jokes (26) told in one minute record
  • Two UK schools set records for largest gathering of people dressed as nursery rhyme characters and largest gathering of people dressed as Harry Potter

March Week 1!

Get out of your comfort zone - I was going to write that I did the opposite of this one this week when I arrived back in the UK full of cold and spent the next few days on the sofa under the duvet (which is definitely a comfort zone!) but as I was typing I rembered the endurance test on the whale watching boat for the last 1.5 hours of the trip as I fought to keep what little of my breakfast, and dignity, that remained.

Being ill in public is definitely way up there on my list of things that make me very uncomfortable!

February Week 4!

International do nothing day - it's always this day on Ray's birthday, coincidence? I think not!

This day is kind of anathema to me - I seem to be incapable of just doing nothing. One of the things I love about Mine Truly is that it would truly make him happy if I spent just one day of the weekend, while he's at work, doing sweet FA!

Give a compliment to a stranger day - I didn't come across any strangers worthy of compliment but I did compliment someone (male) on their very, very pink t-shirt!

February Mission - The Results!

Well this one was made easy by virtue of the fact that there was nothing to fear in February (or certainly nothing that comes to mind)!

Feel the fear and do it anyway!

March Mission!

I have a confession to make - I've swapped the March mission for the April one as it's much more appropriate!

So, here's the March (but really April) Mission...

To venture out and travel beyond to really understand our place in the world

Get out of my comfort zone and feel the wind in my hair, the sand between my toes, the rush of adrenalin in my body

Go places I’ve never been, in body and mind to come home with a new wisdom

Go forth and have a JOURNEY!
