A lazy Saturday morning, a trip to Asda, my first ever Starbucks frappachino and also ..................Eurovision night!
What more could you possibly ask for, Kevin and Ray's annual Eurovision bash, the company of good friends, music, singing, dancing, good food and drink all coinciding with a visit from the amazing DBB!!

Try a New Hairstyle Day!
Today is Try a New Hairstyle Day!
Budget permitting I would have really gone to town on this one with all sorts of sparkly, feathery, glittery, over the top stuff (to the point where I'd have struggled to lift my head), luckily I could only stretch to multicoloured strands of fake hair type stuff (technical term)!
Linda, mother of 2 girls, did a fantastic job of plaiting my hair and weaving the strands of colour in and I managed to avoid falling asleep while she did so (am I the only person who actually used to like the nit nurse visiting school?)!
Here's the result!
I have to admit I loved this look - I've grown very attached to the colours, they will definitely be used again!

Now I'm not sure if I'll get accused of cheating or somehow invalidating the day but I've actually tried 2 new hairstyles! When I undid the plaits and unpicked the coloured strands out I had definite crimped look!
Well it was certainly more exciting than Cup of Tea Tuesday that's for sure, it remains to be seen whether Smile at a Random Day (tomorrow) will top it!

Eye Candy Spotting Day!
Thursday 17 June was eye candy spotting day!
Eye Candy
The term eye candy refers to attractiveness, a common slang term for visually appealing persons or effects used to draw mass attention is eye candy. The implication is that they are eye-catching in a superficial fashion, for example due to adding an element of sexuality. Like actual "candy", this addition is seen to be neither nutritious nor substantial, but rather provides a potentially addictive appeal which will sustain the attention of a wider audience, possibly despite their better nature. Ok, I'd like to start this by talking about Jeff Goldblum. Now, under normal circumstances Jeff isn't what could be considered eye candy (in my opinion), however, one of the last scenes in Independance Day and a brief moment in one of the Holsten Pils ads (in the early 90's) definitely qualify him as eye candy in my book (it's the way he walks in the desert and the smile (and knowing look) in the advert!)!
So, my point is that eye candy is all in the eye of the beholder at any given moment, or is that every dog has its day or could it be that one beholder's trash is another beholder's treasure - or all of the above!

Broccoli Appreciation Day
Tuesday 13 April was Broccoli Appreciation Day (ok, so it should have been on Tuesday 23 March but I missed it!), I've always said that men are my favourite vegetable so maybe it was about time to remember that other vegetables also have their merits!
In celebration I bought enough broccoli to feed a small army, fed some to Bernie and John (with a Sunday roast, I didn't just invite them round and feed them broccoli!) then made broccoli earrings and a broccoli necklace and took the rest into the office!
I knew leaving the hooks in the ceiling when the Christmas decorations came down was a good idea - perfect for hanging broccoli!
I'd initially planned to take my broccoli jewellery off whenever I needed to leave the office but then thought if I'm going to do then I should do it properly - it's amazing how many people commented on how much they liked my jewellery then leaned in a little closer - this was generally followed by "oh my god, is that broccoli?!".
As you can see I roped in a few 'willing' participants in the office!

Poor Ray - when he came in to the office I told him I couldn't help him unless he let me take his picture with the broccoli!

Experimental Cooking Day!
Thursday 28 January was experimental cooking day! I decided to go for an Eastern theme and finally had opportunity to plan one of these days properly! Due to the slightly unusual present domestic situation I invited myself to my sisters to experiment, initially I went totally overboard and planned to do Chinese, Malaysian, Thai, Japanese, Indian, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Filipino, Korean and Taiwanese dishes before realising that I was overcomplicating things, couldn't source many of the ingredients I needed and couldn't afford all of the rest! There's a fantastic website full of eastern recipes here!
I eventually settled on Japanese Shoyu Tamago (boiled eggs coated in soy sauce - popular in bento boxes and at Japanese street martkets)for the office.

Vietnamese Bo Luc Lac (aka shaking beef - rump steak marinated in all sorts of stuff served with watercress, tomatoes and picked red onion),

Jasmine rice and a bottle of Korean plum wine were the choices for the evening 'experiment'!
Unfortunately other commitments (well, flexi leave) dictated that the office part of experimental cooking day be brought forward to Wednesday 27 January - well done to Paul, Denis and Martin for being willing guinea pigs (well we only had to force Denis a little bit lol)! I boiled the eggs 3 at a time (largely because I know exactly how long to boil 3 eggs for whilst avoiding the horrid green/black line that appears around the yolk when they're cooked for too long!)so ended up doing 4 batches of the things, by the last batch I was getting the hang of it although the house did have a not entirely pleasant aroma of burnt soy sauce!
Experimental cooking day itself was great fun, after viewing the perfect property (which the owner then decided wouldn't accept pets) Bernie (sister) and I headed back to hers to do as much prep work as possible in the latter part of the afternoon. Occassionally Bernie and I spend time together when we both seem to be 'on form' and life becomes like a episode of Friends - this was one of those afternoons - I love it when we spend 'quality' time together lol!
Bernie often says that if there's a hard way to do an easy task I'll find it (I'd like to say that this generally happens when I'm stressed and concentrating on several things at once - which is true - but I can't deny that often I'm dim witted with no excuse whatsoever!) and this was never more true than the black pepper incident! It made perfect sense to me at the time to measure out half a teaspoon of black pepper by putting the measuring spoon on the counter and grinding the pepper mill over it!
